The 2023 annual meeting of the Archaeological Society of New Mexico (ASNM) is scheduled to be held May 5 and 6, with tours on May 7, in Ruidoso at the Convention Center. As an affiliate organization of the ASNM, Jornada Research Institute is organizing and planning this meeting. A tentative theme for this meeting is “By Leaps and Bounds: Recent Advances in Archaeological Inquiry across Southeastern New Mexico,” which explores a number of contributing discoveries that have expanded archaeological interpretations across this vast region of the State. The 2023 meeting will consist of the board meeting, rock art meeting, and certification meeting beginning in the afternoon of May 5th, followed by a “meet and greet” cash bar, buffet dinner, and presentation on the Archaeology of Tularosa Canyon. May 6th will be dedicated to the presentation of papers by various speakers, an evening social hour, dinner and awards, and wrapped up with the Bandelier Lecture by Myles Miller, who will summarize the advances that have been made and interpretations generated through archaeological survey, excavations, rock art studies, ethnohistory, and archaeoastronomy and use of various remote sensing techniques, artifact analyses, and the accumulation of chronometric dates through increasingly greater precision. Tours are still being planned, but we intend to provide a variety of options to those who are interested in participating.
