The Jornada Research Institute has made a donation to The National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition. Its mission is to “lead in the pursuit of understanding and addressing the ongoing trauma created by the US Indian boarding school policy.” This is broader than the US, it is a North American issue. In Canada, several boarding school properties have yielded hundreds of unmarked graves of Indigenous children. In the US, the remains of several children have been repatriated from the Carlisle Boarding School to the Lakota at the Rosebud Reservation, and the Department ofInterior plans investigation of boarding schools.
