The JRI presentation is titled: “Archaeoastronomy of the Great Kivas in Tularosa Canyon”.   It reflects the recent studies that John Groh and David Greenwald have been conducting on the great kiva at Creekside Village, at the Great Kiva site, and at the Twin Kivas Site. Much of the focus is on Creekside Village where we have completed the most comprehensive investigations. Our studies now show that great kivas in Tularosa Canyon were used as celestial observatories tied to landmarks and horizon features to monitor the annual cycle of the sun, lunar cycles, and possibly cycles of other celestial objects. This presentation will be held on February 5th (Friday) at 6:30 pm Mtn time zone.
