Exploring Roman and Etruscan Archaeological History (February 28 to March 10, 2023)

Through JORNADA RESEARCH INSTITUTE’S JOURNEYS OVERSEAS PROGRAM (specializing in making education awesome), we have designed a tour of Rome and its surrounding areas that focuses on the evolution of the Roman Republic/Empire beginning with the late Etruscan independent city-states.  This tour will include:

Visit Etruscan sites of Tarquinia, its museum and necropolis and the necropolis and tumula (tombs) at Cerveteri, plus wine tasting.

Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ruins, plus Trajan’s Market and the Imperial Fora.

A day-trip to Naples/Pompeii.

Tivoli to see Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este (a 16th century country residence).

Domus Aurea (Nero’s Palace), an underground tour and explore the area of Trajan’s Baths.

Ostia Antica, Rome’s port city with its many incredible mosaics.

The Vatican and stroll through Rome to visit some of the iconic landmarks.

Circus Maximus, Baths of Caracalla, and portions of the Aurelian Wall and its Gates, plus two temples dating to the Republican era: Temple of Fortuna Virilis and Temple of Hercules.

The tour is under the direction of David Greenwald, who will guide you to lesser known sites and ruins. Most tours will be guided by local experts, tour guides associated with specific sites, or researchers working at sites.

Tour fees include 9 nights in a 4 Star Hotel in the heart of Rome’s archaeological zone, airport transfers, entrance fees to sites and museums, ground transportation for excursions that require vehicle travel, all breakfasts once in Rome, three lunches, two dinners, and a wine tasting.

Exploring the Mayan World of Mexico (February 5 to 15, 2024)

Eleven days in the Yucatan (Depart USA February 5 and depart Mexico February 15)

Through JORNADA RESEARCH INSTITUTE’S JOURNEYS OVERSEAS PROGRAM (specializing in making education awesome), we have designed a tour of Mayan sites of the Yucatan Peninsula, including the regions of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan, and a side trip into Chiapas. This tour will follow a circuit around the Yucatan Peninsula, dipping down into Chiapas to visit sites along the Rio Usumacinta.  This tour will begin and end in Cancun and includes:

Private transfer to Chichen Itza hotel for optional evening sound and light show.

Private tour of Chichen and visit to Saamal Cenote.

Merida Anthropology Museum and Mayapan Ruins.

Uxmal & Kabah, with optional Uxmal evening sound and light show.

Visit the sites of Labna and Sayil before traveling onto Campeche.

Palenque Ruins, then on to Bonampak and Yaxchilan (access to Yaxchilan via power boat on the Rio Usumacinta.
