JRI Vice President and Research Associate Jeffery Hanson conducted a two-day class on looting, vandalism and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act this past week in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This was funded by the Bureau of Land Management and assisted by the Center of Excellence for Hazardous Materials Management. This class has been approved by the New Mexico State Historic Preservation Division for continuing education credits. In all, twenty people attended. Participants included archaeologists from BLM and cultural resources management firms. The class consists of both a classroom and a field component. JRI will also soon be positioning itself to conduct training on the National Historic Preservation Act and Section 106 compliance. If institutions or organizations are interested in such training, please contact us for details.
